The University of New Hampshire men’s ice hockey team, coming off a road sweep of Colorado College over the weekend, moved two notches higher to No. 18 in the latest USCHO.com Division I Men’s Poll released Monday.
The doubleheader sweep was spearheaded by senior forward Nick Sorkin, who was awarded the Player of the Week by Hockey East Monday. UNH is now 9-7-1 on the year.
Sorkin recorded five points on three goals and two assists in two games against Colorado College. In the 6-2 win Friday, the senior recorded two goals. He notched the game-winning goal in a 3-0 shutout the following day and assisted on the second and third goals. His game winner came on a power play.
The two goals in the first game matched a career high for Sorkin, first achieved against St. Could State in October of 2011.
In the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll, UNH is not ranked but received six honorable mention votes.
The Wildcats return to action on Friday against Hockey East rival Boston College. Friday’s game will be at Boston College while Saturday’s game will be at the Whittemore Center.
