NH College Roundup: Dartmouth basketball team rips Maine

Sophomore Alex Mitola led four Dartmouth players in double figures with 19 points in an 81-56 men’s basketball victory over host Maine Sunday. The 25-point spread is the largest margin of victory for Dartmouth (3-1) against a Division I program in over 16 years.

Mitola produced his season-high 19 points by hitting 6-of-10 field goals. Joining him in double figures were sophomore Connor Boehm (15 points), sophomore Kevin Crescenzi (14) and junior John Golden with 12. Dartmouth is 3-1 on the season.

Franklin Pierce 89, Assumption 69: In Worcester, Mass., forward Ellis Cooper scored 27 points and hauled in 15 rebounds. Donte Gittens collected 16 points and Andre Blackwood netted 11 points for the 8-1 Ravens.

Suffolk 111, New England College 101: In Henniker, leading NEC (2-3) was Robin Wilson, who shot 14-for-17 from the field and finished with a game-high 31 points. Jonathan Byrnes and Ryan Schmitz each chipped in 16 points. Joel DeMadet scored nine points and had 10 rebounds.

Holy Cross 63, UNH 52: In Durham Saturday, Patrick Konan notched 13 points and six rebounds in the loss. Jacoby Armstrong chipped in 12 points and seven boards for the Wildcats (2-4) who lost their fourth straight game.

Women’s basketball

Assumption 73, Franklin Pierce 50: In Worcester, Mass., Brittany Martelle was the lone Raven in double figures with 12 points. Franklin Pierce fell to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the league.

Bryant 67, UNH 61: In Smithfield, R.I., UNH was led by Nashua’s Kelsey Hogan, who finished with a season-high 17 points. UNH fell to 3-3. Hogan matched a career high in three-pointers with four.

American 77, Dartmouth 54: In Washington, D.C., Dartmouth (1-4) was led by freshman Katie Vareika, scoring all of her 13 points in the second half. Fanni Szabo collected 11 points and Milica Toskovic added 10 points in the defeat.

St. Anselm 74, Concordia (N.Y.) 47: In East Stroudsburg, Pa., at the 49th annual East Stroudsburg University Pocono Classic, Candace Andrews scored 14 points and had seven steals for the 5-4 Hawks.

Women’s hockey

Ohio State 2, UNH 0: In Durham, Ohio State goalie Lisa Steffes turned back 21 shots for the win. UNH (6-9-2) was led by goalie Ashley Wilkes who had 19 saves.

Men’s hockey

Johnson & Wales 1, SNHU 0: In Manchester in the third place game of the Manchester Police Athletic League Stovepipe College Hockey Tournament, the Penmen fell to 7-3. Josh Obregon scored the lone goal in the second period. SNHU was 0-for-3 on the power play. Penmen goalie Tyler Holske had 24 saves.

Harvard 5, Dartmouth 0: In Cambridge, Mass., the Big Green fell to 2-9-0. Lindsay Holdcroft made 14 saves for Dartmouth.

Stonehill 10, Franklin Pierce 3: In Winchendon, Mass., senior defenseman Tyler Cornele scored twice for the 1-5-1 Ravens Saturday.
