Now that the Thanksgiving evening and Black Friday shopping frenzy has run its course, it's time to go little and go local.
Gov. Maggie Hassan has proclaimed today as Small Business Saturday and is encouraging Granite State residents to shop at local stores this holiday season, part of a nationwide initiative by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
"New Hampshire's small businesses drive our economy forward, creating good jobs and strengthening our communities," Hassan said in a prepared statement.
"By recognizing Small Business Saturday, we can help support those local businesses who contribute so much to our economy and communities."
Those businesses include Impeccable Nest, an interior design store that opened in June at the Bedford Village Shoppes on Route 101. Owner Emma Carole Paradis said she will discount prices 10 percent today.
"It's very hard being a small businesses to compete with the larger chain stores and retailers on Black Friday," Paradis said.
