Martinez, Rodriguez lift Salem past Lawrence

Jason Martinez and Josh Rodriguez each scored two first half touchdowns to lead Salem High to a 50-21 rout of Lawrence, Mass., in a Thanksgiving Day eve football contest Wednesday at Grant Field in Salem.

The Blue Devils, winless in 2012, closed out their season with a 4-6 record under first-year head coach Rob Pike.

Down 7-0, the Blue Devils scored the next 50 points. Salem tied the game on a 16-yard TD scamper from Rodriguez and took the lead on a six-yard run from Martinez, who had 201 rushing yards by halftime. Pike said he finished with 230 yards after playing one series in the second half.

Salem turned a close 15-7 game into a rout with three touchdowns over the final 1:46 of the first half. Rodriguez (13-yard run), Martinez (81-yard gallop) and Austin Homsey (5-yard catch) gave the hosts a 35-7 edge.

Doug Maroun and Solomon Ortiz each added a rushing score in the second half and teammates Bryce Haynes and Matt Ayotte each had an interception for Salem.

Seniors Colin Parnell and Anthony Depetrillo controlled the line of scrimmage for the Blue Devils.
