Anthem further extends policy renewal times

November 26. 2013 7:11PM

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Hampshire extended even further the time its customers have to renew their 2013 health plans, enabling them to buy coverage through most of 2014 if they choose.

Anthem announced Tuesday that individual policyholders now have until Dec. 16 to renew their current policies, which would enable them to have coverage through Nov. 30, 2014. Anthem's customers previously had until Nov. 30, 2013, to renew plans.

"This is an extension of something we've already been doing," Anthem spokesman Christopher R. Dugan said Tuesday. "This is an opportunity for consumers to take a look at what they have and make the best decision for themselves," he added.

The extension follows the New Hampshire Insurance Department's announcement Monday that they will permit New Hampshire health insurers to renew 2013 coverage in 2014 for consumers who would like to keep their current plans.

This option is available to consumers who buy their own health coverage, including those whose current health plans are not compliant with the Affordable Care Act.

Anthem spokesman Dugan said consumers need to contact their brokers or an Anthem agent to tell them what they want to do.
