Timberlane superintendent reflects on past year

PLAISTOW — Thanksgiving is a reflective time for many, including Timberlane school district superintendent Earl Metzler.

“It’s a time to say thanks for so many,” said Metzler. “I’m thankful to be the superintendent of this district. A little over a year ago (the School Board) offered me that and it has been the opportunity of a lifetime. We have a great district.”

Over the past year, Metzler has made instructional rounds of all the district schools to see how teachers perform in the classroom, and he said he has been duly impressed.

“I’ve seen great teachers in classroom after classroom after classroom,” said Metzler. “The test for me is that I would love for my daughters to have that teacher, and that is true about Timberlane teachers.”

With the last of the initial instructional rounds finishing up before the holidays, Metzler said the administration is already looking at a second schedule of instructional rounds in the spring.

“We hope to have a second round in the spring, although it can be very time consuming,” said Metzler. “Administrators have to clear 10 schedules for the day, but it is certainly well worth it.”

Metzler also invited the school board to take part in some of next year’s instructional rounds.

“Hopefully next year, we can give you the opportunity to visit the schools on these rounds and see some of the action that goes on,” said Metzler. “They do great work.”

Metzler replaced superintendent Richard LaSalle at the beginning of the 2012-13 school year.
