Timberlane School Board member resigns following arrest
SANDOWN — A Timberlane school board member has resigned his position after being arrested for assaulting his wife.
Roger Barczak was arrested on Saturday, Nov. 16, and charged with simple assault, criminal mischief, and false imprisonment, according to police.
Barczak was released on personal recognizance and is scheduled to be arraigned on those charges in Derry District Court on Dec. 18.
At last week’s Tinmberlane School Board meeting, chairman Rob Collins read a resignation letter from Barczak stating he was resigning from the board for personal reasons.
“I sincerely apologize to the citizens of Sandown that I will not fulfill my commitment to the full term to which I was elected,” Barczak said in the letter. “I enjoyed working with a great group of dedicated professionals on the school board and in the administration in an effort to provide great educational opportunities for our students throughout the district.”
With Barczak’s resignation, there is now an open seat on the school board for a Sandown resident. Collins said anyone interested in serving should contact the SAU 55 administrative offices.
Barczak had been a member of the board since 2012 and previously was a selectman in Sandown.
