Dover pre-Thanksgiving feast a Wednesday draw

DOVER — As part of an annual ever-growing tradition, residents in need can enjoy some much needed camaraderie during a pre-Thanksgiving feast at Blue Latitudes on Wednesday.

A collection of area businesses has once again come together to offer the fifth annual Thanksgiving celebration dinner at the downtown restaurant at 431 Central Ave.

"This is a charity dinner to help out those in the city that don't have the means to have a Thanksgiving dinner on their own," according to Christian Simko, director of product marketing and communications at Relyco, which is based in Dover.

"This event continues to grow every year. Last year, more than 300 meals were served and we're anticipating a larger crowd this year," Simko said. Due to the popularity of the event, there will be consecutive seatings at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m.

Simko said the increased attendance can be attributed to the sluggish economy and greater awareness about the meal. He added the event has gained momentum since Mike Steinberg, president of Relyco, and Jeff Roemer, president of Blue Latitudes, began the tradition in 2008.

"Thanksgiving is such a meaningful holiday to many of us because it represents a gathering of friends and family in which we together celebrate our 'thanks' with a special meal," Romer said in a release.

Steinberg, who also serves on the Thanksgiving Celebration Committee, said "it's our mission to bring the true meaning of Thanksgiving to those who may not be able to have this experience."

The Thanksgiving Celebration dinner is made possible: Agar Food Service, Bank of N.H., Bamford & Dedopolous, Beacon Retirement Group, Blackman Chiropractic, Blue Latitudes, Bruton & Berube PLLC, Centrix Bank, Dean Fournier, DF Richard Energy Inc., Dover Elks Lodge 184, Dover Moose Lodge 443, Dover Police Charities, Duston's Market & Bakery, Federal Savings Bank, Formax, G&A Insurance, Hannaford in Dover, Harvey's Bakery, Janco Electronics, Jewelry Creations, Kathy Fink & Friends, Kennebunk Savings, Label Tech Inc., Lindt & Sprungli USA, Mark & Monique Kane, Mark Moeller PA, Marshall Rental Center, Martineau Electric, Measured Progress, Munson Plumbing & Heating, Ovington's Produce, Profile Bank, Raiche & Company CPAs, Relyco, Robert & Anne Huggins, Roger Hamel CPA, Ross Furniture, Shaheen & Gordon PA, Strafford Appliance, Tasker Funeral Services, Vigilant Woodworks, VXi, Yankee Equipment, Walmart in Somersworth and Wentworth Douglass Hospital.
