Contoocook school district divvies up LGC refund

PETERBOROUGH — The Contoocook Valley School District returned more than $600,000 last week to its district towns.

The money came from overpayments in health insurance premiums to the Local Government Center in 2010.

According to Brendan Minnihan, the superintendent of the ConVal School District, there are three separate refunds from the Local Government Center after payments have been made to employees and retirees based on money they contributed to their health insurance.
The first refund of $231,906 will be used as district revenue to reduce the tax rate for 2013-2014, he said.

The second payment of $603,571 will be divided among all nine school district towns as follows: Antrim-$60,326.94, Bennington-$30,118.20, Dublin-$66,573.90, Francestown-$59,663.01, Greenfield-$43,426.94, Hancock -$67,630.15, Peterborough-$214,961.86, Sharon-$14,938.39 and Temple -$45,931.76.
The third and final refund of about $241,000 is expected to be received by the school district in September 2014 and may be used to reduce the tax rate.
