Pelham arrest made in connection with drug trafficking

PELHAM — A 24-year-old Pelham man was arrested on Thursday afternoon in connection with a drug trafficking investigation, and additional arrests could be coming soon.

Kenneth Bailey was arrested without incident on Thursday during a motor vehicle stop on Melody Lane, according to Lt. Brian McCarthy. There were arrest warrants against Bailey for two counts of selling marijuana.

Bailey had been placed on surveillance after detectives learned that he was selling marijuana and the prescription drug Suboxone in Pelham.

The investigation of Bailey was done with the assistance of the state police’s narcotics investigation unit.

During the case, an undercover state trooper purchased marijuana and the prescription medication from Bailey, according to McCarthy. The undercover officer was also able to gather information on a Pelham-based drug trafficking crew that police have been investigating for several months.

“This crew was transporting large amounts of marijuana from out of state into this area and packaged the marijuana to appear like medical marijuana,” said McCarthy. “It is believed that this marijuana was obtained from a legitimate cannabis dispensary in California.”

McCarthy said Bailey’s arrest was part of a six-month investigation into several suspects selling drugs in the town.

Bailey was arrested sooner than anticipated because it was believed he was going to flee the state, according to McCarthy.

During the investigation, police purchased $4,000 worth of high-grade marijuana and prescription medication from several people.

Additional drug distribution charges may be brought against Bailey, and additional arrests are expected in the case.

Bailey was arraigned in Nashua District Court on Friday and held on $2,500 cash bail.
