Contractor hired for Ossipee job faces theft charges
OSSIPEE — A local building contractor who was awarded the bid from the town of Ossipee to renovate the town’s Freight House faces six felony theft charges after he allegedly failed to pay subcontractors $8,500 for work on the structure.
The contractor, Peter Lievi, 56, of Circuit Road, was arraigned Wednesday in Carroll County Superior Court, where he was released on personal recognizance bail.
On Nov. 1, a Carroll County grand jury indicted Lievi on six counts of felony theft by unauthorized taking. The offenses allegedly occurred between July 1, 2012, and April 30, 2013.
According to the indictments, Lievi allegedly failed to pay Thursty Water Systems, Ultra Seal Insulation, John Pratt Company, Winnipesaukee Lumber Company and Knight Security Alarm Company $1,500 each. The sixth count, a class B felony, alleged that he failed to pay the Fred E. Varney Company $1,000.
The town awarded Lievi the contract to renovate the building for $189,000, and he has since been paid $166,650.
