Four NH residents held on federal charges in series of bank robberies
PORTLAND, Maine - Three New Hampshire residents are under arrest on federal charges connected to five bank robberies in Maine and New Hampshire.A fourth man was arrested in October in connection with the same series of bank heists.Daniel Barry, 28, of Pembroke, Marvin Eugene Ansteth Jr., 40, of Somersworth, and Brianne "Bri" Mone, 27, of Dover, were arrested in New Hampshire and charged with bank robbery. They appeared in U.S. District Court in Portland.A fourth man, Philip Gage, 46, of Somersworth, N.H., was arrested Oct. 31 on charges he robbed the Kennebunk Savings Bank in Eliot on Oct. 26 and the Ocean Communities Federal Credit Union in Sanford on Oct. 26.According to a news release issued by U.S. Attorney for Maine Thomas E. Delahunty II, Barry provided handguns for and participated in the Kennebunk Savings and Ocean Communities Federal Credit Union robberies. Ansteth was the alleged getaway driver for the Kennebunk Savings robbery, while Mone was allegedly the getaway driver in the Ocean Communities robbery.Ansteth is also accused of driving the getaway car in the armed bank robberies of Peoples United in Exeter, N.H., on Oct. 7, and the Meredith Village Savings Bank in Alton, N.H., on Oct. 10. Mone allegedly was the getaway driver in the armed robbery of Citizens Bank in Somersworth on Aug. 21.Gage was arrested for robbery in connection to the Maine bank heists, but authorities said he participated in all five robberies.According to the Portland Press Herald, on Nov. 9 Gage tried to hang himself with a sheet at the Cumberland County jail. The sheet ripped and Gage fell to the floor. He was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment and then later returned to the jail where he was placed on a suicide watch.WMUR reported authorities made the three most recent arrests after Gage told investigators of their involvement.All five face up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each count.The case was investigated by the FBI, Maine State Police, and the Eliot, Kittery, Sanford, Berwick, York, Maine, and Exeter, Somersworth, Alton and Pembroke, N.H., police departments.
