Mass. man indicted over crash that killed judge

DOVER — A Bay State man is under indictment on two counts of negligent homicide related to a crash last February that claimed the life of a New Hampshire judge.

Ryan Marchant, 23, of Wakefield, Mass., was also indicted for aggravated DWI.

He is accused of being under the influence of liquor about 9 a.m. on Feb. 23 while driving on Route 4 in Durham. Police said he was driving a 2004 Chrysler Sebring when he tried to pass a car and struck a 2000 Buick operated by Bruce R. Larson, 74, of Durham, a retired special justice for Candia District Court.

A Strafford County Superior Court grand jury indicted Marchant on two counts of negligent homicide, alleging he negligently caused Larson's death while under the influence of intoxicating liquor and by traveling at an unsafe speed while attempting to pass a vehicle in a no-passing zone.

The aggravated DWI indictment alleges he caused a collision resulting in serious bodily injury to his passenger, Martin Hyppolite, 22, of Malden, Mass., who suffered a broken hip.
