Holly Fair on Nov. 23 kicks off Raymond’s holiday events

RAYMOND — The historical society’s Holly Fair will return on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with homebaked cookies, cakes and pies, raffle tickets and “white elephant” table items.

Tickets for the Raymond Historical Society Christmas raffle are $1 each or $5 for six and will be available at the fair. Prizes include a cord of wood, an afghan and a gift certificate to the local Hannaford. Raffle winners will be drawn on Sunday, Dec. 15.

The Holly Fair is being held in the historic train Depot on Main Street, which the society is raising funds to restore ahead of the town’s 250th anniversary celebration next year. The event will also help support continuing historical society operations and the organization’s efforts to preserve the town‘s history.

The Holly Fair is the first in a string of holiday events that will take place throughout the season in town.

Holiday parade, tree lighting Dec. 7

On Saturday, Dec. 7, Raymond Recreation will host the annual holiday parade, which kicks off at 4 p.m. and will be followed by the Christmas tree lighting on the town common.

The Raymond Historical Society will open the Depot after the event for parade participants and carolers to enjoy hot chocolate and cookies. The one-room Gile Schoolhouse will also be open and decorated for the season.

The town’s 250th anniversary committee will host a second “community spirit” event to coincide with the holiday festivities. Local families are being invited to bake and decorate their own gingerbread creations, which will displayed in early December with the date, time and location still to be determined.
