College Sports Roundup: Dartmouth men's hockey loses again, in OT

Andrew Aummon's goal with 11 seconds remaining in overtime lifted the Princeton men's hockey team to a 5-4 home triumph over Dartmouth on Friday night, the Big Green's seventh straight loss to open the season.

Dartmouth, 0-5 in the ECAC, led 3-0 before the hosts rallied. The Tigers scored four straight to take a 4-3 lead in the third period before Dartmouth's Brett Patterson tied it with 7:35 remaining in regulation.

Cab Morris made 29 saves for Dartmouth.


SNHU 6, SUNY-Canton 1: Dane Caracino and Jay Sylvia scored two goals apiece to lead the Penmen (3-1) in Canton, N.Y.


Castleton State 4, St. Anselm 2: At Sullivan Arena, the Hawks dropped to 0-3-0. Kevin Vanous and Greg Merrill scored for St. Anselm.

Women's hockey

St. Anselm 3, Nichols 0: Freshman Alison Quinn scored twice to lift the St. Anselm women's hockey team past Nichols at Sullivan Arena.

Andi Foss added the other goal, and Courtney Winters assisted all three markers for the Hawks (4-1-0, 2-0-0 in ECAC East). Junior goalie Lindsey Brown made 10 saves for the shutout. St. Anselm outshot Nichols, 52-10.

The Hawks swing back in action today at 1 p.m. when they host Manhattanville.




Princeton 3, UNH 1: The Wildcats' two-game unbeaten streak ended in Princeton, N.J., despite a goal by Haley Breedlove and 17 saves by goalie Vilma Vaattovaara.




Castleton State 7, Plymouth State 2: PSU dropped to 1-3 overall, 0-2 in the ECAC Women's East, with the home loss. Kim Gosselin, of Concord, scored for the winners (3-2, 1-0).

Women's basketball

Keene State 89, Green Mountain 36: Junior Courtney Roberts led a balanced attack with 14 points as the Owls rolled Friday in a first-round game of the 18th annual KSC Tip-Off Tournament. KSC will play the winner of Friday night's game between Endicott and Mass College of Liberal Arts in today's 3 p.m. championship.

Men's basketball

Plymouth State 76, St. Joseph College (Long Island) 58: Junior Alex Burt, of Dover, scored 19 points to lead Plymouth State to a victory in Friday's opening game of the Rick Martin/Holiday Inn Express Men's Basketball Classic at Westfield (Mass.) State. Bishop Guertin of Nashua product Logan Kesty added 11 points and Berlin's Curtis Arsenault popped in nine. Manchester Memorial grad Shomari Morgan scored seven points for PSU.




Franklin Pierce 102, LIU Post 82: Five Ravens, led by Ellis Cooper with 18 points, hit double figures in Friday's game in Colchester, Vt. FPU improved to 4-0.
Men's cross country
The Dartmouth men finished fifth and the UNH men took 12th in Friday's NCAA Division I Northeast Regional meet at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx, N.Y. Dartmouth's Will Geoghegan placed fifth, in 30:22 over the 10K course, and John Bleday took eighth, in 30:26. The Wildcats' top finisher was John Prizzi (50th, 31:24). Former Manchester Central stars Zach Chabot (88th, 32:07) and Sam Gagnon (95th, 32:13) also fared well for the Wildcats.

Women's cross country

Abbey D'Agostino's amazing string of success continued on Friday in the Northeast Regional meet at Van Cortland Park. D'Agostino, a Dartmouth College senior, won the meet for a third straight time, in 19:48, 11 seconds faster than runnerup Emily Sisson of Providence College. D'Agostino has yet to lose a race this fall. Her effort helped the Big Green to second place (84 points, behind Providence's 44) and a spot in next weekend's NCAA's at Indiana State. UNH took ninth, with 250 points. Placing 24th was Heidi Caldwell of Hanover, a junior at Brown.

Volleyball

New Haven 3, SNHU 0: The Penmen closed out their season 12-12 (7-7 in the Northeast-10) after the 25-16, 25-15, 25-18 loss in Connecticut. Ashlee Daoust, of Brookline, totaled seven kills and nine digs for SNHU.
