Keene couple sought on robbery charges arrested in Virginia

Samantha A. Scott, left, and Charles Lamont McDay, right, were arrested in Virginia.

KEENE - A man and woman, wanted on robbery charges, were arrested in Virginia after the woman was picked up on a shoplifting charge, police said.

Charles Lamont McDay, 24, of 86 Winter St., and Samantha A. Scott, 21, last known address of 755 Monadnock Highway, Swanzey, are being held in Chesterfield, Va. McDay was arrested while he was waiting in his car outside the Virginia jail for Scott to be bailed.

Police said rendition will be sought to bring them back to New Hampshire to be prosecuted.

The robbery happened on Nov. 11. Police received a 911 call from a woman reporting she was being robbed at her home but the call was cut off before police could identify her or pinpoint the location

The call was traced back to a Keene residence and police were sent there. They met with the woman who said she was robbed of money after a man and woman, acting together, entered her home

She believed the man had a handgun. She knew the two who robbed her and identified them as McDay and Scott.

Police said the woman's phone was grabbed from her as she tried to call police and she was threatened about reporting the robbery.

The woman also told police earlier that night McDay sexually assaulted her, but he was not charged with that offense.

Police said McDay was on electronic release from the Cheshire County jail as a result of felony charges of criminal threatening which involve the use of a knife. He was arrested on those charges on July 7.

A few hours after the Nov. 11 robbery, police said McDay cut off his electronic monitoring unit. It was later found in Woodlawn Cemetery, off Beaver Street. He also was out on bail for June 24 arrest on multiple counts of simple assault, police said.

Investigators obtained an arrest warrant charging McDay with armed robbery, burglary, tampering with a witness and obstructing the report of a crime. An arrest warrant for Scott charged her with being an accomplice to robbery and burglary.

Investigators learned the two intended to relocate to Florida. Ultimately, the two were arrested in Virginia.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the robbery or has more information is asked to call Keene police Detective Jennifer Ramey or Detective Michael O'Donnell at 603-357-9820.
