Seven to be enshrined in NHIAA Hall of Fame

Seven people, including three coaches and one official, will be inducted to the 13th annual NHIAA Hall of Fame Induction on Sunday. The event will be held at the Grappone Conference Center Courtyard by Marriott in Concord beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Dave Barry, Paul Bellavance and Earl Mills are the three coaches the NHIAA will be honoring this year.

Barry served as the baseball coach at Sunapee from 1972 to 2006, winning six Class S titles and three runner-up trophies. In 1977 he co-founded the volleyball program at Sunapee, serving as the only coach from 1977 to 2006. His teams won four state titles and nine runner-up plaques.

Bellavance served as the wrestling coach at Nashua High from 1971 to 1995. His teams won six state titles and six runner-up crowns. Bellavance produced 60 individual state champions and many top place finishers in the New England Tournaments.

Known as the "Godfather" of cross country and track in the Lakes Region, Mills' legacy will be everlasting at Newfound High School of Bristol and across New Hampshire. He started the cross country program at Newfound in 1976 and track and field in 1978. He won three divisional cross country state titles and his girls' track team was runner-up in 2005.

Rick Zecha of Keene will be inducted as the lone official this year. As a member of the New Hampshire Basketball and Football Officials' Associations since 1977, and the New Hampshire Baseball Umpires Association since 1976, he has officiated over 40 NHIAA basketball finals, more than 15 football finals, and several baseball finals.

In the administrator category, the NHIAA is honoring Winnacunnet of Hampton athletic director Carol Dozibrin.

A former president of the NHIAA Council, she has been involved in education, officiating, skiing, gender equity, finance and football. She is the chairman of the NHIAA Football Committee.

Since beginning her career teaching at Farmington High in 1977, she has taught, coached, and served as the athletic director at Timberlane of Plaistow, Newport Middle High School, and most recently, at Winnacunnet.

Former Henniker High baseball and basketball standout Duane "Joe" Clement will be inducted as an athlete. It was in baseball that he accomplished his greatest achievements. He threw many no-hitters and as a senior pitched every game of the year, including three tournament games in one week before losing the Class C championship in extra innings. Mike Abbott of Hinsdale High will be inducted as a contributor to the NHIAA. In the early 70's, he began a lengthy and distinguished career as a teacher, principal, soccer and basketball coach at Hinsdale High. He remained principal until 2000.

His record as the boys' varsity soccer coach was 106-9-2, His soccer teams won four soccer championships and one runner-up trophy. He was named the New Hampshire Soccer Coaches Association's Coach of the Year three times.
