Recount doesn't change Ward 12 winner
MANCHESTER — A ballot recount on Wednesday affirmed the victory of Keith Hirschmann over Roger Beauchamp for the Ward 12 alderman seat in last week’s election. Hirschmann had 541 votes to Roger Beauchamp’s 501, according to the tally conducted by the three-member Board of Recount. Hirschmann’s margin of victory was four votes wide than the election day results, which gave him a 36-vote advantage.
In a statement after the recount, Hirschmann said, “I have already begun the process of meeting with department heads on an informal basis to map out goals for the needs of Ward 12. Going forward I am eager to work with the Board of Mayor and Aldermen to accomplish these priorities for our city and its citizens.”
Beauchamp did not respond to a request for comment. Beauchamp is the current Ward 12 school board member. He and Hirschmann were competing for the alderman seat held by Patrick Arnold, who ran for mayor.
Hirschmann’s victory represents a pick-up for the city Republicans Committee, which backed him. Beauchamp was supported by the city Democrats.
Hirschmann was the Ward 12 alderman from 1996 to 2002.
