Expect delays: Road work on Interstate 93, Route 28 scheduled for this week

LONDONDERRY — Local commuters can expect some delays this week when state transportation workers make some minor traffic lane adjustments along Interstate 93 and Route 28.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, several planned traffic lane adjustments on both I-93 northbound and Route 28 will be in effect along the Exit 4 area, according to Bill Boynton, spokesman for the state Department of Transportation.

Boynton said the changes are associated with the construction of the four new bridges at Exit 5.

On Tuesday all lanes of Route 28 will be shifted onto the newly-constructed final roadway configuration if the weather cooperates, Boynton said.
The work will take place during daytime hours, he noted, with removal of existing striping and the painting of new striping to take place between the hours of 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Both northbound and southbound traffic along that section of Route 28 can expect intermittent stops by flaggers and uniformed officers during that time period, according to Matthew Lampron of the DOT construction bureau.
On Wednesday, the northbound traffic lanes on I-93 will be readjusted as the final portion of the project.

Lampron said that section of highway would be re-striped between the hours of 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Once completed, the Exit 5 area would be fully aligned with the newly constructed bridges and recently widened segment of highway.

Project officials said the state police would be conducting rolling roadblocks during the day Wednesday to aid in the transition.
Work on both Route 28 and I-93 is part of the ongoing highway reconstruction project.

Severino Trucking. Co., Inc. of Candia, is the general contractor for the $37 million project, which is scheduled for completion in June 2014.
