DERRY -- Top-seed Coe-Brown Northwood Academy held off a feisty Windham team to win 3-1 and claim the Division II girls' volleyball title at Pinkerton Academy Saturday.

The Bears won the first two sets 25-15 and 25-19 and were on their way to a sweep when Windham fought back.

After being down 10-5 the Jaguars clawed their way to a tight 26-24 win in set 3.

But Coe-Brown shook off that misstep and rolled to a 25-14 4th set win to clinch the title.

Bears coach Rick Veno credited his team's balance for the successful season.

"We have a lot of offense on this team. We have a lot of girls who can handle the ball. That's our advantage." said Veno. "Some teams have one or two attackers. We have many options."

It's the first girls' volleyball championship for the Bears.

"We focused on one game at a time and took care of business" said Veno.

Windham coach Jill Bartlett expressed pride in her teams accomplishments this season.

"This is only the 4th year of our program and we never got past the semis. To get this far is a huge accomplishment" said Bartlett. "I'm very proud of my girls."

Emma Easler led Coe-Brown with 23 kills. Megan Rouillard had 12. Sadie Stefan had 24 assists and Debbie Peabody had 25 digs.

For Windham, Alexis Sawyer had 9 kills, Hannah Scott had 21 digs and Melissa Cino had 38 assists.
