Bowl Sunday to help injured Goffstown boy
GOFFSTOWN — Alex Reed, the 10-year-old boy struck by a car while walking across Mast Road on Oct. 16, is recovering from his injuries.
“I have great news. Alex is now home. He still has a long road ahead of him with physical therapy, but he is home,” said family friend Tricia Adams.
The community and friends have reached out during the family’s ordeal and are continuing fundraising efforts to help the family of six meet medical and other expenses. So far, about $7,000 has been raised, said Adams.
Adams and Alex’s mother, Mandi, are part of a mom’s group called BAM, and the members are always there to help each other, she said.
A fundraiser is scheduled for Sunday, from 5 to 9 p.m., at Leda Lanes, at 340 Amherst St., Nashua. Bowlers pay $10, which includes bowling, pizza and soda, and proceeds will go to the Reed family.
Adams said anyone interested in donating to the family or an item for the raffle to be held Sunday, may contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org. Raffle items must be received no later than today.
Several fundraisers have been held, including two bake sales, a donation jar set up at the Goffstown Pumpkin Regatta, and an event at Nuthin’ But Good Times in Merrimack, with proceeds from food and admission going to the family.
Alex was crossing the street near the A-1 Gas Station on Mast Road when he was hit by driver Joann Keenan, 54, of Goffstown, police said. Keenan was not issued a citation and the accident is still being investigated by the prosecutor’s office, said Capt. Rob Browne. Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the accident.
Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to call Goffstown police at 497-4858.
