New liquor store in Bedford opens Friday

BEDFORD — A new state Liquor and Wine Outlet — double the size of an existing Bedford location and offering 20 percent more in wine and spirit selections — is scheduled to open today off Route 101.

The New Hampshire Liquor Commission (NHLC) will throw open the doors of the new 13,400-square-foot NH Liquor & Wine Outlet is located in the Bedford Hills mixed-use development on Leavy Drive in Bedford, adjacent to the Copper Door Restaurant and Dunkin’ Donuts. The new store, which is accessible from Route 101 via Old Bedford Road, replaces the store formally located at 5 Colby Court in the Bedford Grove Plaza,.

“Since 2010 the NH Liquor Commission has strategically relocated and renovated 14 NH Liquor and Wine Outlets in communities throughout the state in order to better serve the traveling public and residents,” said NHLC Chairman Joseph Mollica in a prepared statement. “The recent renovations and relocations directly impact sales, which in FY 2013 were a record-setting $603.5 million.

“Almost 37,000 cars pass along Route 101 and 114 in Bedford each day. The highly visible location will be easily accessible for customers who will find a more pleasant shopping experience thanks to the store improvements.”

The new store features a specialty wine room that will showcase new arrivals and featured products available for a limited time. Chilled wine and spirits will be available for purchase for the first time, and a hand-crafted French EuroCave temperature controlled wine cabinet will house rare finds. Customers will also have the option to use iPads — provided by the outlet — to search food and wine pairings and find products in the store’s inventory.

Mollica said the expanded footprint for the outlet could allow for special events and wine tastings to be held at the site.

In recent years, the NHLC has renovated or relocated NH Liquor & Wine Outlets in Bedford, Concord, Gilford, Hampstead, Lebanon, Lincoln, Manchester, Merrimack, Nashua, North Hampton, Peterborough, Plaistow, Portsmouth, and West Chesterfield.

State liquor commissioners recently broke ground on two new 20,000 square foot NH Liquor & Wine Outlet stores that will anchor the Common Man Restaurant’s redevelopment of the rest areas along Interstate 93 North and South in Hooksett. The two new outlets will be more than double the size of the existing locations. The NHLC operates 77 retail locations throughout New Hampshire, and serves more than 9 million customers each year.
