Three NH elementary schools named U.S. Blue Ribbon Schools

WASHINGTON, D.C. — New Hampshire public elementary schools in Hollis, Newfields and Lincoln have been recognized by U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan as 2013 National Blue Ribbon Schools, designees in a program used to identify best school-leadership and teaching practices.

The three are among 286 schools to receive the honor, which means the principal and one teacher from each are invited to an awards ceremony Nov. 18 and 19 in Washington.

Hollis Primary and Newfields Elementary schools were recognized as some of the state’s highest performing schools, as measured by standardized tests. Lin-Wood Public Elementary School in Lincoln was awarded because at least 40 percent of students from disadvantaged backgrounds showed progress in standardized tests.

“The fact that we have three award winners again this year is a testament to the hard work being done by students, parents, educators and everyone who plays a role in the education of our children,” said state Education Commissioner Virginia M. Barry. “These schools represent all the excellent schools in New Hampshire that are working hard to improve achievement for all students.”
