Manchester woman charged with Tilton burglary

TILTON— Police said that a Manchester woman accused of the daytime burglary of a Laconia Road home confessed to the crime after she was shown a picture of the homeowner’s deceased husband, which was among the money and jewelry she allegedly stole.

Jessie Connelly, 25, of 77 Rochelle Street in Manchester was arrested Sunday and charged with burglary, disobeying a police officer and operating after suspension.

She was arraigned Monday and ordered held on $10,000 bail, according to Tilton Police Chief Robert Cormier.

Connelly was spotted breaking into the home at about 9:35 Friday morning by employees of a business across the street, Cormier said.

“She knew the homeowner, and she knew the homeowner would be away most of the day, and she was seen trying to break in several times,” he said.

When officers arrived at the scene, police said, Connelly fled before being stopped at a nearby store. According to police, Connelly gave a false name and said she was driving a friend’s car. Police found she was driving without a license.

When they searched the car, police found a large pile of money and jewelry, Cormier said. As they went through the jewelry, they found a framed picture of the homeowner’s deceased husband, Cormier said.

Upon seeing the picture, Connelly began cooperating with police.

“She confessed everything once she saw that,” Cormier said.

Cormier credited Officer Abe Gilman’s fast response for the arrest.

Gilman was aided by an employee of the Fast Cash store across the street, Richard Merrill III, who helped provide “details we needed to locate the suspect.”
