NH College Notebook: UNH and Dartmouth set to renew football rivalry

The University of New Hampshire and Dartmouth College will renew their football rivalry next season on Sept. 27 in Durham.

The game against Dartmouth is one of six games UNH will play at Cowell Stadium in 2014, the school announced Friday with the release of next season's schedule.

The Wildcats will open the season at FBS opponent Toledo on Aug. 30.

The schedule also features six home games and a game in Elon, N.C., against Elon University, which joins UNH in the Colonial Athletic Association next season.

UNH and Dartmouth most recently played in 2009 with the Wildcats winning 44-14 in Durham. Dartmouth asked to take a break in the series, which has been dominated by UNH.

"We're excited to have Dartmouth back on the schedule," said UNH deputy director of athletics Steve Metcalf. "We've long considered it as a game the two schools should be playing against each other. We think it's a game that's good for both of us."

The teams are not scheduled to play in 2015, but are due to play in Hanover in 2016 and Metcalf plans to discuss continuing the series beyond that.

A home game against Lehigh is the other nonconference matchup, along with Dartmouth and Toledo.
