For alderman: Manchester Wards 1-6

In Manchester’s aldermanic races in Wards 1-6, the New Hampshire Union Leader endorses the following candidates:
Ward 1: Tim Corbett. A young husband and father, Corbett displays an unusually high level of knowledge about city politics. One of his campaign issues is abolishing the city’s Revolving Loan Fund, which provides city-funded loans to small businesses, many of which go bankrupt. He comes across as eager to ask tough questions at board meetings to get answers for his constituents and hold government accountable. He favors the city spending cap.
Ward 2: Win Hutchinson. Former Republican state Rep. Hutchinson is a constant local voice for spending restraint. He has been a long-time and active supporter and defender of the spending cap and an advocate for running the city more efficiently.
Ward 4: Shuvom Ghose. Ghose has run for state representative as a Republican, although he seems to lean more to the libertarian side. He is a strong supporter of spending restraint and getting government out of the people’s business. He would shake things up on the board.
Ward 6: Joe Whitten. A well-spoken young professional, Whitten has made constituent service the core of his campaign. He also speaks knowledgeably about troubles business owners have in dealing with the city. He makes a strong case that aldermen can improve the local economy by improving the way the city interacts with business owners and citizens. We would love to see him get the chance to pursue some important reforms as an alderman.
