Southern New Hampshire University to host Veterans Week

MANCHESTER – From Nov. 2 through Veterans Day, students, staff and faculty at Southern New Hampshire University will pay tribute to veterans during the first Veterans Week.
SNHU is home to approximately 100 student veterans on campus and 2,200 taking classes through the College of Online and Continuing Education.
The schedule of events includes a visit to the Verizon Wireless Arena for a Monarchs game, where student veterans will be recognized; a networking night for student veterans with veteran friendly employers; a volunteer opportunity for the campus community at the Manchester VA Medical Center; a "Proud to be an American" themed bingo night; a bake-off for active duty military currently overseas; a Veterans Resource Fair; a Boot Camp Challenge to test students ability to pass the Army Physical Fitness Test; men's and women's basketball games to raise money for the Liberty House in Manchester with free admission to all active duty military and veterans; a veteran themed artwork contest open to all local high school and community college students, as well as current SNHU students; and a National Roll Call where the names of approximately 3,900 service members who lost their lives in in Iraq and Afghanistan will be read.
The basketball games to be held on Saturday, Nov. 9 (women at 3 p.m. and men at 5 p.m.) are open to the public and admission is free; however, donations for the Liberty House are appreciated.
Additionally, local high school and community college students are invited to submit veteran-themed artwork to the contest by Nov. 1 for the chance to win an SNHU scholarship.
