CONWAY — The volunteers and friends of Abigail Hernandez who helped organize a 500-person vigil last Saturday night are hoping to spread awareness of the missing girl among thousands this Sunday night.
Paul Kirsch of the White Mountain Milers running group, which counted Abigail and her mother, Zenya, as members, is organizing a Facebook campaign that has the potential to bring more eyes than before on the missing persons' case, organizers said.
Kirsch and others are making a graphic design of a standard screen size with Abigail's photo, details and the FBA's contact number that they will send to the thousands of Web page and Facebook page members and followers who have become a part of the search for her safe return, Kirsch said.
Two of the most popular Abigail Facebook pages have more than 6,000 likes, friends, and/or followers, he said. The online chain of people following the effort is likely much larger, he said.
Organizers will be getting the graphic out to potential participants Friday.
On Sunday night from 6 to 10 p.m., all those participating will be asked to replace their own Facebook and/or other social media platform profile photos with the Abigail graphic.
"If you think about it, when any of us updates our Facebook photo, everybody knows about it instantly (because of Facebook's notification system)," Kirsch said.
Organizers hope that a unified profile image might make an impression.
"If everyone's using the same image for their profile at the same time, we're really getting the message out there," he said.
Authorities, meanwhile, still report no breaks in the case.
Hernandez was last seen walking home from Kennett High School on Oct. 9.
Authorities have offered a $20,000 reward for any information leading to the identification of Abigail Hernandez, to an arrest in her case, or for any other information that helps authorities find her.
Anyone with information about her disappearance is asked to call the Conway Police Department at 356-5717, or the FBI tip line at 1-800-225-5324 or leave information online at tips.fbi.gov.
