October 30. 2013 10:58PM

MANCHESTER — Friends of Fern Ornelas will host two fundraisers to benefit Ornelas and his family.

Ornelas, 54 of Manchester remains hospitalized in Boston with what friends say is a broken neck that left him paralyzed from the neck down.

He was injured sometime between Oct. 15 when he went to Elliot Hospital for a mental health episode and the morning of Oct. 17 when the county jail sent him back to the hospital in serious condition, friends and family say.

A fundraiser will be held at the Derryfield Country Club from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 17. Local merchants are donating items to be raffled off. There also will be a 50/50 raffle. All proceeds will be donated to the Ornelas family, said Ornelas' friend and fellow golfer Marc Morin.

Another fundraiser will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Dec. 5 at P.J. O'Sullivans. It will include a silent auction of prizes donated by local merchants. Tickets are $15 each; two for $25.

An account has been set up at TD Bank to accept donations on behalf of the Ornelas family. Anyone may make a donation at any TD Bank branch. Checks should be written out to "The Fern Ornelas Fund."

Already several thousand dollars in proceeds from the Annual Point Invitational Golf Tournament held Saturday at the Derryfield Country Club were donated to the fund, Morin said.
