NHIAA Roundup: Goffstown advances in Division II

The sixth-ranked Goffstown Grizzlies (11-4-2) knocked off No. 11 John Stark of Weare (6-7-4) with three second half goals in a 3-0 NHIAA girls’ Division II first round soccer win Wednesday.

Aly Leblanc, Parker McBride and Michele Tremblay scored the goals for Goffstown.

“It was a great start to the playoffs for us. It was a tough matchup,” Tremblay said. “It was tied at halftime, but in the second half we started finishing out chances.”

Goffstown moves on to a second round game at 2 p.m. on Saturday at No. 3 Souhegan of Amherst, which was a 2-1 winner over Lebanon.

Division I

Manchester Central 2, Keene 0: In Manchester, defenders Taylor Wright, Sarah Michaud, Inez Lee, Haley Goff and goalie Lindsay St. Pierre smothered Keene’s offense. Sophomore Devin Lacroix, on a low righthand corner shot, and senior Emily Duchesne on a 35-yard direct kick supplied Central’s offensive attack. Sara Swetland had an assist for 12-5 Central which travels to Bedford for a quarterfinal test Saturday at 2 p.m.
Londonderry 1, Dover 0: At Londonderry, the No. 8 Lancers (9-6-2) got a second half goal from Kassie Moore off an Emily Crocetti feed for the lone goal. Merissa Brousseau made three saves for the shutout. Audrey Mosacato stopped 13 to keep Dover (7-8-2) in the game. Londonderry plays Saturday at 2 p.m. at Exeter.

Division III

Hillsboro-Deering 3, Stevens 1: At Claremont, No. 13 Hillsboro-Deering upset No. 4 Stevens.

Makayla Savoy scored in the 36th minute and Bridgette Winters headed home a corner kick from Kiersten Clough 17 minutes into the second half to put HD up 2-0.

Stevens got to within a goal, but Winters added an insurance goal. Emma Moore had eight saves in goal for the win.

Division IV

Derryfield 8, Groveton 0: At Manchester, the second-ranked Derryfield School improved to 16-1-0 with a first round win over No. 15 Groveton (2-13-2). Freshman Gabi Brummett scored four goals and Chloe Warner, Brynn Polgrean and Emma Polgrean (two goals) chipped in. Derryfield keeper Cam Huftalen made three saves.
Hopkinton 4, Somersworth 0: In Hopkinton in a Division III preliminary round match, Courtney Benson scored twice and teammates Aaliyah Curley and Lillias Whitehead each tallied once. Hopkinton goalie Casey Smith registered the shutout win for the third-ranked Hawks (13-2-2) who will host Prospect Mountain of Alton on Saturday at 2 p.m.
