Arrest made in Manchester shooting

MANCHESTER — The man sought for the shooting of another man during an altercation on the West Side Sunday afternoon was arrested Wednesday after he was spotted walking in the area of Beech and Valley streets.

Police had warrants for Jeremia “Jeremy” Ruiz, 20, whose last known address was 205 Wilson St. Ruiz was sought in the shooting Sunday of Anthony Pedra, 30, who sustained a gunshot wound to the torso in the area of Amory and Dubuque streets about 3:45 p.m. Sunday. Pedra was taken to Catholic Medical Center for treatment of what was described as a non life-threatening wound.

Authorities had been searching for Ruiz when he was spotted on the street Wednesday at about 2:45 p.m.

He refused the services of a bail commissioner, so bail will be set at Ruiz’ arraignment today in Circuit Court-Manchester District Division.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on felony charges of first-degree assault and reckless conduct.
