Salem assistance program opens new outreach center
SALEM — Residents of Salem looking for help with fuel assistance applications, food pantry services and other essential programs have a new location to visit.
Southern New Hampshire Services’ Rockingham Community Action Program recently leased, fixed-up and opened a new space at 85 Stiles Road.
The program was formerly in a town-owned building on Lawrence Street and began looking for a new space last spring, according to Phil Grandmaison, SNHS special projects coordinator.
“We probably looked at 10 to 12 different spaces over several months, and on Sept. 1, we signed a lease at 85 Stiles Road,” said Grandmaison.
Two people are working at the center full time, and the program is in the process of hiring an additional part-time worker.Patte Ardizzoni, Rockingham Community Action administrator, said the outreach center will assist local residents with crisis services. Appointments for help will be scheduled from Mondays through Fridays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. by calling (855) 295-4105, she said.
“This new outreach center further demonstrates Rockingham Community Action’s commitment to serving Salem-area residents who need help paying their energy bills, feeding their family, or with other crisis services,” Ardizzoni said. “We urge people who may be in need to call and set up an appointment with one of our trained staff members as soon as possible.”
In the past 12 months, Rockingham Community Action has provided 478 Salem homes with fuel assistance, 72 with emergency food pantry services and 84 with housing assistance.
