State Police: Speed factor in crash injuring Nashua man

NASHUA - A Nashua man broke a hip in a crash Monday night on the Everett Turnpike.

According to state police, Jarrod K. Rossi, 33, was driving south in the left lane passing traffic at a high rate of speed and, for an unexplained reason, his 2004 Toyota Tundra veered across four lanes of traffic, across the breakdown lane, crashed through the guardrail, flipped over onto its passenger side and slammed into an overhead stanchion where it come to rest on the passenger side.

Rossi, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital for treatment. He was arrested there on unrelated warrant.

Rossi's truck was destroyed in the crash and a section of the guard rail, including supporting posts, also was damaged.

Inspectors from the state Department of Transportation were called to the scene to inspect the integrity of the overhead sign stanchion.

Traffic was restricted to two lanes of travel for about two hours while the crash was investigated and the wreckage cleared.

State police said speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by Trooper Stefan Czyzowski of Troop B in Bedford.
