West Side shooting suspect identified by Manchester police

JEREMIA "JEREMY" RUIZ

MANCHESTER -- Police have identified the person they are seeking in connection with a shooting Sunday afternoon on the West Side.
Police said they are seeking Jeremia "Jeremy" Ruiz, 20, whose last known address was 205 Wilson St., in the shooting of man whose name police are still withholding.
Police said they responded to the area of 270 Amory St. Sunday at about 3:45 p.m. for a report of a fight and possible shots fired.
They found a male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the torso in an alley near Dubuque and Amory streets.
The victim was transported to Catholic Medical Center for treatment of the injury, which is not believed to be life-threatening.
Preliminary information indicated the victim was wounded while fighting with another man, who reportedly fired a gun at the victim before fleeing on foot.
Police searched several nearby apartment buildings on Rimmon Street, but were not able to locate the gunman. Based on information gathered during investigation by detectives, Ruiz was identified as the shooting suspect.
Ruiz is now sought on warrants for first-degree assault and reckless conduct. The firearm used has not been recovered, so police say Ruiz should be considered armed and dangerous.
He is described as a Hispanic male, about 5-foot-8, 150 pounds, black hair worn in an Afro style and brown eyes.
Anyone with information on Ruiz' whereabouts is asked to contact Manchester police at 668-8711. Anonymous tips for cash rewards can be made through Manchester Crimeline at 624-4040 or online at www.manchestercrimeline.org.
