Power Poll: Nashua South falls two spots after loss to Keene

Keene's 35-21 victory over visiting Nashua South cost the Purple Panthers a chance at a perfect season and dropped them two spots in the Union Leader/WGIR/WMUR Power Poll, but it wasn't quite enough to lift the Blackbirds over the Panthers in the rankings of the state's top high school football teams.

Concord (8-0) remained a unanimous No. 1 selection in the weekly balloting of representatives from the three statewide media outlets, while Bedford (7-1) returned to the No. 2 spot, with South (7-1) slipping from second to fourth, one rung above Keene (6-2).

If both teams win their final regular-season home game, South will have a chance to gain revenge against Keene in the Division I West championship game.

Pinkerton Academy of Derry (6-2) is ranked third.

Rounding out the top 10 are Manchester Central (6-2), Bishop Guertin of Nashua (5-3), Portsmouth (7-1), Exeter (5-3) and Plymouth (7-1).

Trinity of Manchester dropped out of the rankings after a 52-20 loss to Windham on Saturday, while Central, winner of six straight after opening the season with back-to-back defeats, entered the top 10 for the first time.

Central concludes the regular season on Friday at Bedford, with the winner advancing to face Concord in the Division I North championship game and the loser eliminated from the playoffs.
