Large brush fire brings help to Nashua

NASHUA — Fire crews from Nashua and surrounding communities were busy Sunday battling a multi-acre brush fire. The fast-moving brush fire was burning Sunday morning in Mine Falls Park on Grand Avenue in Nashua, drawing crews from the Gate City, Hudson, and Merrimack.
Nashua Deputy Fire Chief Brian Rhodes said most of the fire had been contained as of noon, but crews spent several hours throughout the afternoon watering down hot spots. Rhodes said the firefighters' jobs were made more difficult by the fact that the flames spread underground, after burning through dry brush and leaves that had accumulated in the park.
Rhodes said the lack of rain was a factor in the fire spreading quickly through the park.

Hudson firefighters supplied specialized equipment that sprayed foam to extinguish the blaze. Firefighters from Dunstable, Mass., and two forestry units also assisted.
The cause of the fire remained unclear late Sunday afternoon.
