New York Life agrees to $15 million death file settlement
New York Life Insurance Co. has agreed to a $15 million payment to settle claims that it misused or did not use the Social Security Administration’s Death Master File database to ensure beneficiaries were paid when an insured died. Insurance regulators in California, Pennsylvania, Florida, Illinois, New Hampshire and North Dakota reached the agreement with the insurer.
