Dartmouth researcher finds gender stereotypes do less harm to female candidates than thought


Maine Sen. Edmund S. Muskie's campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination imploded after he wept outside the Union Leader over an editorial Feb. 26, 1972. Hillary Rodham Clinton went on to beat Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential primary after similar conduct. 

With women now making up more than half of medical and law school classes, and similar proportions in other professions, there's no reason similar ratios couldn't apply in politics.
