NHIAA Roundup: Goffstown girls post field hockey tourney upset
Sydney Gagnon scored twice to help 10th-seeded Goffstown upset seventh-seeded Hanover 3-1 Thursday in the first round of the Division II field hockey tournament. Molly Norton also scored for the Grizzlies, who received two assists from Anne Steckowych. Emily Patten scored for Hanover.
Plymouth 2, Portsmouth 0: At Plymouth, Shelby White scored the eventual game-winner in the 43rd minute in the Division II preliminary round game. The assist went to Angelina Stewart, who scored the second goal on a breakaway with 3:15 left. Nora Healey registered an assist on that play. Plymouth goalie Emelia Karntakosol turned back 13 saves. Plymouth plays at No. 1 Windham on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Merrimack Valley 2, Milford 0: At Penacook, Olivia Thurber and Cassidy Huckins scored for sixth-seeded Merrimack Valley in the Division II preliminary round game.
Berlin 5, Conant 0: In Berlin Wednesday in a Division III preliminary round match, Myra Arsenault and Chelsey Caron each scored two goals. Berlin goalie Danielle St. Cyr notched the shutout.
Winnacunnet 3, Londonderry 2: At Hampton, Londonderry received 15 kills from Madison Milton but the Warriors secured a playoff berth with a 30-28, 25-12, 13-25, 17-25 and 15-11 victory.
Inter-Lakes 3, Prospect Mountain 0: At Meredith, Jordan Donahue collected 10 kills, seven points and four aces as Inter-Lakes raised its Division III record to 12-3 with a 25-20, 25-18, 25-17 triumph.
Sunapee 3, Hillsboro-Deering 0 (25-10, 25-23, 25-16): On Wednesday, Ginny Philbrick had seven digs and Hannah Pepper added four digs for the Hillcats.
Epping 3, Trinity 1: At Epping, Katie Pettis had 18 digs for the Blue Devils, who prevailed 25-13, 21-25, 25-15 and 25-19 on Wednesday. Ngoc Tran had five aces and Cassidy Garrow added six kills for the 8-7 Blue Devils.
Pinkerton 3, Nashua South 0: Kelsey Cummings had 21 digs and Lexie Verreault added 12 digs for the Astros, who won 25-21, 25-11 and 25-19. Nicole Langlais had 10 digs.
Goffstown 3, Timberlane 2: In Plaistow, top performers for Timberlane (10-7) included Jessica Buckley (18 kills), Christina Nye (21 kills), Olivia Harnois (39 assists, five aces) and Ginny Fagan (24 digs) as the Grizzlies prevailed 23-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-23 and 15-8. Goffstown (11-6) was led by Jessica Williamson (16 kills, 38 digs, 3 aces), Rene Roggenbuck (14 kills, 10 digs), Kendra Siemiesz (26 assists, 13 digs) and MollyKate Fanning (23 digs).
Goffstown 4, Pembroke 1: Senior Michele Tremblay scored her 100th career goal for the Grizzlies. Goffstown had two goals from Georgia Caine and one from Peyton McBride. Pembroke's goal was scored by Emilee Harlow. Goffstown is 9-4-2 and Pembroke fell to 8-7.
Derryfield 4, Hinsdale 0: At Hinsdale, Gabi Brummett scored three goals, giving her 12 in her last two games. Emma Polgrean also scored for Derryfield (15-1-0).
Memorial 3, Spaulding 1 : In Manchester, Memorial was led by Vanessa Monzon who scored twice and Kerry Anne Mothersille. Memorial goalie Rachel Thibeault turned back seven saves for the 2-12-2 Crusaders.
Inter-Lakes 3, Gilford 1: At Gilford, Caitlin Rotonnelli scored three goals as Inter-Lakes capped its regular season with a victory.
Hanover 5, Bishop Guertin 0: In Hanover, the Marauders completed a 15-0-1 regular season campaign with their 14th shutout win. Daniel Hazlett, Rocco Linehan, Xavier Tchana, Noah Kahan and Tim Alibozek each scored once. Linehan, who leads the team with 21 points, had two assists. Hanover goalie Alex Bynum recorded his 11th shutout win. BG ended 1-15.
Sunapee 1, Wilton-Lyndeborough 0: At Wilton, Nick Skarin headed home a Brandon Fleming direct kick with three minutes to play as Sunapee improved to 9-4-2.
Pinkerton 4, Dover 2: Phil Lerner scored two goals for Pinkerton (11-5). Tim Wood and Sean Donohue also tallied once. For Dover, Ryan Ruonala and Ayalew Binette each scored once. Dover is 3-12-1.
Manchester Central 0, Bedford 0: In Manchester Wednesday, Bedford halted Central's 12-game winning streak at Gill Stadium on Wednesday. Central dominated the game, out-shooting Bedford 28-5 and holding a 6-1 advantage in corner tries. But Bedford defense didn't break behind goalie Josh Reeks. Central is 13-2-1 and Bedford is 6-9-1.
Oyster River 4, Souhegan 2: At Durham, Bryce Shultz scored twice for the Bobcats, who improved to 11-4.
Salem 3, Nashua North 0: At Salem, Todd Righini scored twice and Ryan Fredette added a goal for Salem.
Bishop Guertin 1, Londonderry 0: At Nashua, Jamie Sherburne scored for the Cardinals, who ended the regular season 11-4-1.
Hollis/Brookline 3, Merrimack Valley 0 : Hollis/Brookline finished its regular season at 14-2 thanks to two goals by Cole Owens.
Londonderry 3, Winnacunnet 2 (OT): Nate Gaw scored the game-winner in the first overtime for 8-7-1 LHS.
Alvirne 4, Merrimack 1: Alvirne of Hudson completed a 14-2 regular season. Alvirne goals came from goals by Raul Stedile, Josh Bellomo, Brett Richardson and Kyle Salucco.
