NHIAA cross county division meets set for Saturday

The NHIAA Cross Country Division Championships will be held Saturday at Manchester's Derryfield Park.

The Division II girls' race kicks off the event at 10 a.m. followed by the boys' race at 10:40 a.m. The Division I girls' race commences at 11:30 a.m., followed by the boys' race at 12:10 p.m.

The Division III girls' race will start at 1 p.m. and the boys will run at 1:40 p.m.

Four Division I girls who placed in the top 10 last year are returning Saturday. Junior Shannon Murdock of Exeter, who finished third last year in 19:15, is the favorite. Senior Smita Boesch-Dining of Concord (19:23, fifth place), senior Molly McCabe of Bishop Guertin of Nashua (19:35, seventh place) and Gwenyth Winship of Bedford (19:53, ninth place) will also be contending for the individual title.

On the boys' side, seniors Damon Kilgore of Londonderry (16:35, sixth place), Tristam Winship of Bedford (16:39, eighth place) and Abram Gagnon of Manchester Central (16:42, ninth place) return after placing in the top 10 last year.

Coe-Brown of Northwood is the heavy favorite to win the girls' Division II race. Last year's champ, junior Hannah Parker (18:58) will be leading a strong Bears quintet. Senior Jeremy Brassard of Coe-Brown returns to defend his Division II title.

Junior Emily Calder of Hopkinton, who finished runner-up last year in 19:56, is the favorite to win the Division III race. The boys' race favorite is Andrew Weckstein of Bow who finished runner-up last year.
