NHIAA Roundup: Bishop Guertin bounces Keene in 2 OTs

Ninth-ranked Bishop Guertin of Nashua defeated eighth-ranked Keene 2-1 in the second overtime of a Division I preliminary round field hockey playoff contest in Keene Tuesday.

Carly Caveny, assisted by Mia Vecchione, scored the game-winner with 7:18 left in the second overtime.

Keene scored first, getting a goal from Courtney Nolan with 2:46 left in the first half. The assist was from Kaeleigh Lord. Mia Vecchione of BG scored an unassisted goal with just over 30 minutes left in regulation.

Kelly Mahoney had six saves in net for the Cardinals (8-7) and Jess Lavallee had five saves for Keene, which ended its season 5-6-4. BG will travel to Hampton on Friday to play top-seeded Winnacunnet.

Boys’ soccer

Hanover 1, Exeter 0: In Hanover before 350 fans, a second overtime goal from Rocco Linehan allowed Hanover (14-0-1) to post its 13th season shutout. Xavier Tchana assisted on the goal at the 93:19 mark. Linehan beat Exeter goalie Ben Cresitello-Dittmer (12 saves) for his 10th season goal.

Souhegan 5, Kennett 2: In Amherst, Souhegan (8-7) was led by four goals from Devan Casey and one from Liam Rendall. Kennett received two goals from Donovan Spaulding. Souhegan goalie Teigue Young had one save and Kennett keeper Ryan Vajentic made 11 stops. Kennett falls to 3-12.
Timberlane 2, Bedford 1 (OT): Tyler Donovan scored twice including the game-winner in overtime in the 81st minute. Austin Marshall and Matt Plante each had an assist for the 9-7 Owls. Caelan Koolman scored for Bedford, which dropped to 6-9-0.
Hollis/Brookline 5, St. Thomas 0: At Hollis, Cole Owens scored three goals and teammates Harrison Fetter and Nathan Rogers each had one goal and one assist. Cam Tulley had one assist.
Concord 3, Pinkerton 2: In Concord Monday, Dan Nkhalamba scored the game-winner in the 73rd minute for the Crimson Tide (11-2-2). Pinkerton took a 1-0 lead on a first half goal from Phil Lerner, but Concord responded with three straight goals from Gaston Arocena, Chris Pinkham and Nkhalamba. Tommy Martin scored for Pinkerton (10-5) in the 77th minute. Pinkerton goalie Eric Werner stopped 11 shots and Concord netminder Andrew Grondin had eight saves.
Nashua South 1, Spaulding 0: At Rochester, the game-winning goal was scored by Mauricio Acevedo, assisted by Ryan Guidaboni. South goalie Chris Jimenez had a penalty kick save and notched the shutout win for the 4-12 Panthers. Spaulding fell to 2-12-1.

Girls’ soccer

Exeter 5, Manchester Central 0: In Manchester, nationally-ranked Exeter (15-0) was led by Casey Estey with two goals. Anna Vogt, Katie Day and Heather MacNaughton each tallied once. Central goalie Lindsay St. Pierre (eight saves) and Julianna Andersen (two saves) combined for 10 saves. Exeter goalie Jessica Long had eight saves.
Derryfield 11, Farmington 0: In Farmington, Derryfield (13-1) was led by Gabi Brummett, who scored nine goals. Emma Garfield and Emma Polgrean (three assists) each had one goal. Chloe Warner had two assists.
Hollis/Brookline 2, Oyster River 1: At Durham, the Cavaliers (9-5) survived a road game at Oyster River (6-7-1) thanks to goals from Sarah Mauser and Hannah Modelski.
Pinkerton 2, Concord 1: At Southern New Hampshire University on Monday night, Mel Roberge scored a first-half goal for Pinkerton and Katyann Grochmal scored the game winner at the 48:25 mark. Erica Parent and Julie Murray each had an assist for the Astros. Pinkerton goalie Sammy Mitchell had eight saves.
Bedford 2, Timberlane 0: In Plaistow, Bedford (11-2-2) was led by goals from Johanna Celli and Anna Bogursky.

Volleyball

Merrimack 3, Nashua North 1 (24-26, 25-11, 25-16, 25-15): On Monday, Merrimack was led by Jen Coffey (20 kills, 3 blocks and 13 digs), Jo Coffey (22 service points, 18 digs and 43 assists), Christie Roy (4 blocks, 10 digs and 13 kills), Elise Jolly (5 blocks, 7 digs and 11 kills) and Caitlyn Paulson (17 service points and 14 digs).
Moultonborough 3, Belmont 2 (25-22, 25-21, 23-25, 18-25, 10-15): On Monday, Belmont was led by Megan Bailey (5 kills, 31 assists) and Jessie Bergeron with 28 digs.
