Machete attack investigated by Manchester police

MANCHESTER — A 21-year-old Concord man is nursing a cut to his hand after a confrontation with a man armed with a machete early Tuesday morning.

Police learned of the incident in a call about 12:20 a.m. from Catholic Medical Center where Zachary Parlier was being treated for a cut to his hand.

Parlier told police he and a Manchester friend were crossing the road, near West Hancock and Wheelock streets, when an oncoming car stopped abruptly. A man, wielding what the Concord man thought was a bat, got out of the car and approached them.

He swung the weapon at Parlier, who deflected the blow by grabbing onto the weapon. It was only then, police said, that he realized the man was swinging a machete.

The assailant abruptly pulled the machete back, cutting the Concord Parlier's hand, and then the man got back into his car and drove away.

The assailant is described as a white male, about 5-foot-10, and weighing 150 pounds with short black hair and a chin-strap beard. He was last seen wearing a red T-shirt and unknown colored shorts. He left the area in an older maroon, four-door sedan.

The victim reported the man mentioned something to him about a woman when he first approached and believes the assailant mistook him for someone else.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 668-8711. Anonymous tips for cash rewards may be made through Manchester Crimeline at 624-4040 or online at manchestercrimeline.org.
