UPDATE: Police identify pedestrian killed in Litchfield crash

LITCHFIELD — A man who died last Wednesday night after he was struck by a pickup truck as he was walking south on Route 3A (Charles Bancroft Highway) just south of the Litchfield-Manchester line was identified by police Monday.
Litchfield police said Jason A. Mitchell, 38, of Litchfield, was struck by a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Marc D. Arnold, 38, also of Litchfield. Mitchel was pronounced dead at Elliot Hospital.

Police Chief Joseph O'Brion said last week the state medical examiner was performing an autopsy.

The incident happened about 7:20 p.m.

O'Brion said Arnold was driving north in the northbound lane when the accident happened.

In the release, police said Mitchell was walking north on the west side of the highway. Police said Mitchell was wearing dark-colored clothing and was in an unlighted area of the roadway when struck. Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the accident, according to the release.
