Nackey Loeb School presents children’s publishing workshop

How do you turn an idea into a children’s book?

The Nackey S. Loeb School of Communications is offering a one-day workshop on Nov. 16 to help answer that question.

Taught by author/illustrator Maryann Cocca-Leffler, the workshop will offer useful information on how to create and sell your projects to publishers without an agent. Students will hear about the path to publication — from ideas to written drafts, rejections, revisions, more rejections, more revisions, storyboards, sketches and final art. The workshop also includes a look at the business side of the children’s book industry and insight into the new world of ebooks.

Cocca-Leffler has written and illustrated more than 50 books for children, including “Mr. Tanen’s Ties,” winner of the Indiana Hoosier Book Award and the Florida Reading Award; and “Bus Route to Boston,” winner of the Parents Choice Award.

The workshop will be held at the school, 749 E. Industrial Park Dr. in Manchester, on Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $45. Lunch is included. Register at or by calling 627-0005.
