Ian Clark's Corner Kicks: Special year for MacPherson

Raymond's Tucker MacPherson knows he's in the middle of something special.

A junior on the Rams boys' soccer team, MacPherson has 37 goals after netting yet another in a 3-2 loss at Campbell of Litchfield on Wednesday.

"I've heard that 37 goals has not been done in a while and it's a really special opportunity for me to show my skills and go as hard as I can go," MacPherson said.

The Rams are 11-3-0 and among the top teams in Division III. Raymond head coach Dave Elliot said he has conversations with MacPherson often to be sure he remains humble, but also enjoys this year.

"Tucker is having an incredible season that most players only dream of," Elliot said. "He's kept it all in perspective. We've never treated him any differently. He's not special, he's 'one of' and in the end, it's the team that's going to win."

Elliot is making sure that MacPherson keeps his eye on the ultimate goal, that of a Division III championship.

"It's a dream season for him and he deserves whatever recognition comes his way at the end of the season," Elliot said. "But for right now, it's about the team."

MacPherson plays with the New Hampshire Premiere Soccer Academy in the spring, a club team that he said has raised his game.

"Playing at that level has increased my knowledge of the game as well as my technical ability," MacPherson said. "It helps to be surrounded by players that are like me and so passionate about the game and they love playing soccer and they helped me build to a level beyond anything else to this point."

MacPherson said that he has visited a few colleges and that Southern New Hampshire University is high on his list.

For now, that next goal is all he's thinking about.

"Scoring is the most beautiful feeling I've ever felt in my life and soccer is my life," he said. "It means everything to me."The big 5-0: Raymond will honor it's 1963 state championship boys' soccer team with a 50th anniversary event at 6 p.m. following next Thursday's game against Campbell.

Elliot said that many players from the team will be coming back and the hope is to get them to take one more ride in the original fire truck (which is still operational) that took them for a celebratory parade ride back in 1963.
