Man arrested in Rochester attack faces 8 charges
DOVER — The man allegedly involved in a violent encounter outside a Hannaford’s supermarket in Rochester Tuesday remained in jail on $10,000 cash bail.
Christopher J. Wentworth, 41, of 32 Chestnut Hill Road in Rochester, was charged with four counts of felony second-degree assault, three counts of felony criminal threatening and one count of misdemeanor simple assault.
During the incident, which began around 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, Wentworth allegedly struck another man with a two-foot, hand-made club and hit a third with a bag of popcorn in the parking lot at Hannaford’s Supermarket at 11 Milton Road — Route 125 — in Rochester.
Wentworth, who was held overnight at Strafford County Jail, was arraigned Wednesday afternoon in 7th District Court in Dover.
Judge Susan Ashley set bail at $10,000 cash and determined that it could be converted to personal recognizance if Wentworth is accepted into the Strafford County Community Corrections Program with a mental health referral.
The following bail conditions would be in place: Wentworth could have no contact with any of the other men involved in the case, he must stay away from either Hannaford’s in Rochester, sign a waiver of extradition and refrain from possessing any weapons, using drugs or excessive alcohol, according to court clerk’s office.
If Wentworth fails to remain enrolled in SCCCP, bail would convert back to cash, according to court clerk’s office.
