Monarchs’ Martin Jones is AHL player of week

The American Hockey League on Monday named Manchester Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones as its CCM/AHL Player of the Week.

Jones won three consecutive road starts last week, making 87 saves on 91 shots for a 1.27 GAA.

Jones stopped 25-of-27 shots and four-of-five shootout attempts in Manchester’s 3-2 win over Portland. He made seven of his 24 saves during overtime to help the Monarchs to a 3-2 shootout victory at Providence. Jones closed the week with 38 saves for his 11th career shutout, a 3-0 decision in Bridgeport.
