HAMPTON — An Amesbury man has succumbed to injuries suffered early Sunday morning when he was struck by an alleged drunk driver.

Hampton Police responded to the intersection of Ocean Boulevard and Highland Avenue for a report of a vehicle accident involving a pedestrian around 1 a.m. on Sunday.

Charles Sayre, 57, of Amesbury suffered the injuries from being struck by a 2003 Honda Civic and was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital.

The driver, Danielle F. Kooyoomjian, 29, of Hampton was arrested at the scene for aggravated driving while intoxicated.

Sayre was pronounced dead on Monday, according to Hampton police.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and charges against Kooyoomjian could be upgraded as a result of Sayre's death.
