Hassan to nominate economic development director
CONCORD - Gov. Maggie Hassan on Wednesday plans to nominate Karen Pollard, current Rochester deputy city manager and community development director, to be state Division of Economic Development director.Hassan plans to make the nomination at the Executive Council meeting.Pollard was recommended for the position by Department of Resources and Economic Development Commissioner Jeffrey Rose.“To make New Hampshire a leader in the innovation economy, we must strengthen our economic development efforts to help our existing businesses grow and attract new companies in order to create jobs that can support a strong middle class,” Hassan said in a statement. “The Division of Economic Development is critical to those efforts, and for too long it has gone without a permanent leader. Karen Pollard's track record of working to bring advanced manufacturing and other innovative businesses to the City of Rochester demonstrates that she is the right person to help revitalize New Hampshire's economic development efforts.”Prior to her Rochester position, Pollard had more than 10 years of economic development experience in New Hampshire, Minnesota and New York.Pollard received her B.S. in business administration from the State University of New York at Albany, graduated from the Economic Development Institute with honors in 2002, and won the International Economic Development Council Business Retention Award in 2011.Pollard's appointment is dependent on the Executive Council confirming her for the post.
