Hiker who died in White Mountains was from Mass.

The man who died while hiking in Hart’s Location Saturday morning was identified Monday as James Byrne of South Dennis, Mass., New Hampshire Fish and Game said Monday.

A rescue team carried Byrne, 60, who was unresponsive, to the Ripley Falls Trail head after friends and volunteers were unable to resuscitate him.

Byrne had been hiking with family and friends and was about one-half mile up Ripley Falls Trail when the incident occurred about 11 a.m.

Cause of death has not been determined at this time.

Byrne was one of two hikers who died in the White Mountains this weekend.

A hiker from Kennebunkport, Maine, died while descending the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail in Crawford’s Purchase Saturday night. Officials said Dr. Robert Fernandez, 69, suffered an unexpected medical condition and died on the trail.
